南阳棋院是我市唯一一家经国家批准设立的棋类民办非企业单位，成立于1999年。九年来，棋院在南阳市委、市政府领导的亲切关怀下，在市体育局、市围棋协会的正确指导下，在社会各界的支持和帮助下，积极探索新形势下棋类运动发展的新思路，坚持全心全意服务于社会的宗旨，致力于我市棋类活动的普及和发展，取得了可喜的成绩，得到了上级领导和社会各界的好评，棋院本身也有了长足的发展。
