常熟美术馆（庞薰琹美术馆）是基于1991年6月开放的“中国第一家以艺术家个人名字命名的美术馆——庞薰琹美术馆”的基础、“国家历史文化名城——常熟市”的历史和“元四家之首”黄公望、“清四王”之一的王石谷以及他所创立的“虞山画派”300年来在常熟的传承，而列入常熟市人民政府文化发展“十五计划”的重点项目，于2005年10月开馆。
